Sound Designer (Experimental / Diegetic Audio Artist)
Job Title: Sound Designer/Artist (Indie Game Development)
Location: Wales or the United Kingdom (Remote friendly)
Application open till 30.04.26
Project-based / Remote
We’re looking for a sound designer who treats audio as worldbuilding rather than decoration.
This is not a role for assembling assets from libraries. We are building a game where sound is physical, reactive, and alive—every texture, movement, and system must feel as if they exist within the world. We want someone who is excited by the idea of crafting audio from scratch, recording, manipulating, and inventing sounds that have never been heard before.
What You’ll Do
Design and implement fully bespoke, diegetic soundscapes—no stock, no shortcuts
Collaborate closely with design and gameplay systems to ensure sound is integrated, not layered on top
Create audio that responds to mechanics, environments, and player interaction
Experiment with unconventional recording techniques and synthesis to produce unique sonic identities
Implement and iterate on audio directly in-engine
What We’re Looking For
A sound designer with at least one shipped or completed project
Strong understanding of game development pipelines and constraints
Proficiency with audio middleware (Wwise or FMOD)
Experience working in Unreal Engine
Someone who thinks like an artist first, technician second
A portfolio that demonstrates originality, risk-taking, and craft
What We Don’t Want
Generic sound design
Library-dependent workflows
“Good enough” audio
What We Value
Curiosity and experimentation
A willingness to break things to discover something new
Sensitivity to how sound shapes player perception and interaction
Collaboration and clear communication with designers and developers
The Project
We’re developing a 3D puzzle-platforming experience set in a fractured, atmospheric world where sound plays a critical role in how players navigate and understand their surroundings. Audio is not a layer—it’s part of the system.
If this feels like your kind of work, send us your portfolio and tell us about a time you created something from nothing.
